Hormonal Health

The pursuit of balance and harmony whatever age or stage you are at in life.

Play in the forest

The changing and cyclical nature our hormones impact every stage of our lives from girl to teenager to woman. Our hormones effect our mood, our food cravings, our sleep, our weight, our skin, our hair, our relationships, our sex drive, our periods, our ability to conceive, in short EVERY aspect of our lives.

Having balanced hormones is key to feeling our best. There are certain conditions and times in our life that we may need some help and where making changes to lifestyle (Lifestyle Medicine) and diet (Functional medicine) work especially well. Those times are typically as follows:

  • As young adults when periods may be irregular, very painful and/or very heavy.

  • As women when we may be trying to conceive and struggling to do so.

  • When we have a diagnosis of PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), uterine fibroids or Endometriosis or Adenomyosis.

  • Postpartum when we may be struggling with energy levels, exhaustion, mood swings and postnatal depression.

  • Perimenopause and menopause when hormones start to cause havoc again!

Understanding how our bodies and hormones work is key to making changes in our life that support hormonal balance and health. And I know that changing diet and lifestyle works because I did it myself when I was 30 years old. Having received a diagnosis of endometriosis and my gynaecologist giving me the choice between a hysterectomy or medically induced menopause, I decided I would try alternatives first before going down that route! Within 3-4 months I had put my endometriosis into remission using diet, supplements and exercise. In 9 months I was pregnant and went on to have two successful pregnancies. Something I had been told was unlikely to ever happen.

So I know that this approach works! I also know that it takes work and is harder to do than popping a pill or having surgery. But the health benefits of changing lifestyle and diet are so far-reaching and improve so many aspects of health and wellbeing, and importantly can also be done alongside the conventional medical approach. That is why I love helping, supporting and guiding women through their own personal journey towards better hormone balance and health. It is possible to make changes on your own and find your own path back to health and healing, but it is much easier and quicker to have a guide and support to keep you on track!
